Marriott has announced that it will open its first JW Marriott in Spain, with a hotel located in Madrid.

JW Marriott Madrid is scheduled to open in 2022 in the Spanish capital’s Plaza de Canalejas. Developed by Millenium Hotels Real Estate, the hotel will be close to museums such as the Prado and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, while the shopping centre Galeria Canalejas is located next to the property. Madrid-Barajas International airport is located a 20-minute drive away.

The design will be led by local architects Arvo Arquitectura de Juan, and the Madrid team at Rockwell Group will be at the helm of the interiors. The décor will draw inspiration from “the principles of mindfulness”, with interiors featuring textiles and “tactile spaces”.

The 139-room hotel will include two floors of suites, all of which will feature outdoor terraces. Facilities will include a lobby bar, a restaurant and wellbeing spaces.

Earlier this year, JW Marriott celebrated the opening of its 100th property worldwide with the debut of a hotel in Tampa, Florida.

Jenni Benzaquen, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Design Hotels and Europe, Middle East and Africa Brand portfolio at Marriott International, commented:

“Having recently opened our 100th JW Marriott hotel worldwide, we are excited to debut the JW Marriott brand in Madrid. This incredible city is home to iconic architecture, an enviable culinary scene as well as stunning parks and botanical gardens, and the new JW Marriott Madrid is located in the heart of it all.

“JW Marriott encourages guests to be mindful and present, and we believe the brand is particularly suited to today’s luxury traveller who seeks enriching, rejuvenating escapes paired with rich culture and exceptional service.”

Marriott currently operates 93 hotels in Spain across its portfolio.
