IHG Hotels and Resorts will bring its Intercontinental brand to Barcelona this summer, with a hotel located in the city’s Montjuic district.
This will mark the brand’s second hotel in Spain, with a property currently open in Madrid. Occupying the site of the former Crowne Plaza Barcelona, the hotel will undergo a complete transformation with design led by Spanish-based Brime Robbins consultancy.
Intercontinental Barcelona will feature 273 rooms and 18 suites, along with three restaurants and bars, one of which will be led by a Michelin-starred chef. There will also be a 1,200 sqm spa, and a “signature Club Intercontinental experience”.
The hotel will also offer over 3,000 sqm of meetings and events space, including 18 meeting rooms with capacity for 1,200 people. Services will included interactive experiences such as augmented reality, virtual reality and video mapping.
Additionally, the hotel will receive a Biosphere certification upon opening to guarantee that it has fulfilled a set of international sustainability requirements.

Enrique Escofet, Managing Director of Intercontinental Barcelona, commented:
“As the largest luxury hotel brand in the world, with decades of luxury hospitality experience across the globe, we are delighted to announce the arrival of an InterContinental hotel in Barcelona, bringing the brand’s international knowledge, sophistication and our understanding of local culture to this vibrant city. We look forward to continually exceeding our guests’ expectations as they explore Barcelona, its animated culture and the world-class art and design it is famed for.”
IHG Hotels and Resorts currently operates 26 hotels in Spain, including five in its luxury and lifestyle collection – these include the Kimpton Vividora Hotel in Barcelona, Hotel Indigo Barcelona – Plaza Catalunya, Hotel Indigo Madrid – Princesa and Hotel Indigo Madrid – Gran Via.
