Avelo Airlines plans to make its debut on April 28 amid signs of air travel recovery, initially serving 11 domestic destinations from Hollywood Burbank Airport.

With a fleet of three B737-800 aircraft equipped with 189 seats, Avelo will mainly operate to secondary airports across the US. By the end of 2021, the ultra low-cost carrier expects to add three additional B737-700s and double its existing workforce to as many as 500 employees.

Onboard the airline’s B737s, standard seats have 29 inches of pitch, while one-third of all seating will be designated extra legroom and feature 31 to 38 inches of pitch. Travellers on Avelo will also receive complimentary packs featuring bottled water, a light snack, and hand sanitizer.

“We are making flying more affordable and convenient by taking the greatest efficiencies we can find in the industry and sharing the savings with our customers in the form of surprisingly low fares,” said Andrew Levy, chairman and CEO at Avelo.

“Combine that with operating bases at many of the nation’s most convenient airports, infused with a culture of caring, and you have a different and better kind of airline that our customers will love to fly.”

Avelo credited its expansion at Burbank, located in the northern part of Los Angeles county, to flight reductions by other carriers as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Additionally, the carrier said it will offer “industry-low prices” for add-ons such as advance seat reservations ($5) and checked baggage ($10). Avelo does not plan to charge for flight changes and reservations over the phone.
