Accor has published more details and images of the forthcoming Carton House, a Fairmont Managed Hotel, which will open in Ireland’s County Kildare this summer.
The group announced plans to take over the management of the historic country house and estate last year, marking the debut of the Fairmont brand in Ireland.
The 18th century Palladian-style mansion will become the oldest property in Fairmont’s collection of 80 hotels worldwide, following a multi-million Euro refurbishment project.
Located around 20 minutes from Dublin, the hotel will offer 169 rooms and suites, 18 on the upper floors of The House, and a further 151 in The Garden Wing which curves around the estate’s formal gardens.
Features will include The Whiskey Library “with its encyclopedic selection of the world’s finest uisce beatha (the original Irish name for whiskey, meaning water of life)”; casual dining eatery Kathleen’s Kitchen; The Courtyard Bar with outdoor terrace; and The Morrison Room, which will serve as a fine dining evening restaurant and morning breakfast room.
Accor said that the “remarkably handsome series of grand and imposing rooms in The House” – the Gold Salon, the Drawing Room, the Morrison Room and the Bell Room – have all been restored and are part of the daily rituals of Carton House life and at the heart of each guest’s experience.
The property has two championship 18-hole golf courses within its 1,100 acre grounds – a link-style course designed by Colin Montgomerie, which has hosted the Irish Open three times, and a classic parkland course designed by Mark O’Meara.
The Carton House Spa and Wellness facility has been “completely reimagined”, with a new thermal relaxation experience, and guests can also enjoy activities including archery, clay pigeon shooting, cycling, fishing and tennis on the estate.
The hotel will reopen this summer, subject to the lifting of Irish government restrictions, with stays starting from €250 (based on two people sharing) in the Garden Wing and €495 in The House.
Carton House, a Fairmont Managed Hotel will join The Savoy in London and Fairmont St Andrews in Scotland as the third Fairmont property in the UK and Ireland. Fairmont Windsor Park is also set to open later this year.
Commenting on the news Marc Dardenne, COO Accor Luxury Europe said:
“Carton House is a spectacular estate with a history spanning more than eight centuries and a staggering historic house dating back to 1739. A property steeped in grandeur, Carton House has offered timeless hospitality for more than 300 years.
“It is a property befitting the grandest of hotel brands and we are proud to open its doors this summer as part of our world-renowned Fairmont portfolio.”
