Cycas Hospitality has signed a contract with Accor to manage the largest internationally-branded hotel in the Somerset town of Bridgwater.

The 144-room Ibis Bridgwater opened at the start of the week, and is the first Ibis hotel in the UK to feature the brand’s new Plaza design concept.

Plaza hails from Brazilian designer Rodrigo Marcondes Ferraz of architecture firm FGMF, and rooms have an industrial vibe with linear lines, shelves and wooden floors.

The new-build property will also be the first to include all-day dining space Keepers Kitchen and Bar, which offers locally sourced menus and champions regional produce. Additional facilities include two meeting rooms catering for 40 people, on-site parking, and rooms equipped with Smart TVs.

The hotel is located within Woodlands Court Business Park, and is described as being “well placed to cater for British holidaymakers poised to explore Somerset, Devon and Cornwall” once lockdown lifts. At the moment, the hotel’s guests include key workers who are helping to build Hinkley Point C, the UK’s new nuclear power station.

Cristina de Oliveira-Frewen, SVP Franchise Operations, Accor Northern Europe, said:

“ibis Bridgwater is the first UK hotel to feature the brand’s new Plaza design concept. It’s an exciting transformation for ibis and we’re enormously proud to see the design come to life in this hotel, bringing an urban modernity to the interior design. The addition of our Keepers Bar and Restaurant makes this an exciting, modern and affordable hotel for business and leisure guests. Together with Cycas we have created a fantastic hotel and we look forward to developing our partnership further in the future.”

Wayne Androliakos, Cycas Hospitality’s Chief Operating Officer added:

“We’re delighted that Cycas’s first hotel in the South West of England also marks the opening of our first Accor property in the UK. We are excited to welcome the renowned ibis brand to the Cycas family and, with an exceptional team in place, look forward to capitalising on the growing demand for contemporary accommodation for both business and leisure travellers visiting the Bridgwater area.”

The hotel will be operated by Cycas Hospitality as part of a management agreement with Zeal Hotels and Sandgate Investors. This is the third property from Cycas Hospitality, following the opening of the dual-branded Moxy and Residence Inn Slough in February.

Accor also recently announced that it had transformed the Ibis Styles London Gloucester Road into its first fully digital hotel, making it the first of the group’s kind in Northern Europe.
