World inbound tourism spend is expected to rebound by 82 per cent in 2021, recovering from a 57 per cent year-on-year plummet in 2020, according to the latest research by Euromonitor International.

“In our most pessimistic scenario, spending growth is predicted to rise by 40 per cent in 2021, leading to a more prolonged recovery timeline, returning to pre-crisis levels by 2024,” said the market research firm’s Head of Travel and Tourism Research, Caroline Bremner, speaking ahead of the ‘Travel Industry Update with Euromonitor 2021’ webinar that she will present.

In the Middle East, inbound tourism spending for Saudi Arabia is predicted to grow to US$33.5 billion by 2025, while the UAE’s inbound tourism spend is expected to top $25.3 billion the same year.

The webinar, which takes place today (March 25), will also discuss Euromonitor International’s recent Voice of the Consumer global survey, which found that 65 per cent of consumers remain concerned about climate change.

“Consumers are increasingly interested in having a positive impact on the environment through day-to-day actions,” said Bremner. “France and Germany show high levels of interest in sustainable travel.”
