Wizz Air has announced plans for a new route between Birmingham and the Cypriot port city of Larnaca.

The new route is set to launch on May 17, the current “earliest date” when international travel from the UK can resume.

Cyprus recently confirmed that fully vaccinated UK travellers will be able to visit the country without having to quarantine or take Covid-19 tests, starting from May 1.

The twice weekly service will operate on Mondays and Fridays, with lead-in one ways fares from £36.99. Larnaca will become the 11th Wizz Air route from Birmingham.

Jet 2 and TUI also offer seasonal flights between Birmingham and Larnaca, while Wizz Air operates Larnaca services from other UK airports including Cardiff, Doncaster Sheffield, and Luton.

Commenting on the news Owain Jones, managing director of Wizz Air UK, said:

“We are delighted to announce the addition of yet another destination to our network from Birmingham Airport, providing our customers in the West Midlands with more low-fare connections for their post lockdown getaway.

“As Cyprus confirms it will welcome vaccinated British tourists from May, now is the perfect time to book a trip to experience the island’s beautiful beaches, warm weather, and welcoming hospitality.

“We continue to prepare for the easing of restrictions and the Wizz team looks forward to welcoming everyone back to experience great service onboard our ultra-modern, young, and green aircraft fleet. Wizz is ready and waiting to take customers away on their long-awaited summer break.”
