Iberia has launched a new economy fare for customers “seeking more comfort and flexibility in these uncertain times”.

The ‘Comfort’ fare is available on all routes, and offers 100 per cent refunds on long-haul flights cancelled by the customer with 15 days’ notice (80 per cent on short and medium-haul services).

The fare also offers seat selection at the point of booking, and the carrier notes that “For domestic and European flights this means the new XL seats with more room between rows may be chosen”.

Other benefits include boarding passes issued at the point of booking, group 2 priority boarding, and one change allowed with penalty (up to 15 days before the flight).

Iberia says that the new fare offers the above benefits “much more cheaply that ordering them separately”.

The Comfort option adds to the carrier’s existing fare structure, including the cheapest Basic fare (carry-on luggage only), Optimal (including one piece of hold luggage and free seat selection from 24 hours before departure), and Flexible (same benefits as Optimal, plus unlimited changes to bookings).

Iberia recently begun a trial of the Verifly digital health passport app on its Miami-New York route, allowing customers to verify Covid-19 test certificates before arriving at the airport.
