It’s been a tough year for Lufthansa. Because of the pandemic it has had to reduce its short-haul network and cancel expansion plans.

But now comes news that, with effect from June, it will launch flights to Frankfurt from three airports: Bristol, Newcastle and Cork.

Flights from Bristol commence on June 28

While services from Newcastle also launch on June 28

And those from Cork will start on June 25

As might be expected the regional media is excited at the news because it provides all these destinations with global access.

As readers will know Frankfurt is one of Lufthansa’s hub airports and all these three services will offer many connections, not just with Lufthansa but also with other Star Alliance carriers both short and long-haul.

Says Andreas Koerster, Lufthansa Group’s senior director UK, Ireland and Iceland:

“We can offer huge connectivity as we take advantage of our hub system in Frankfurt.  Lufthansa can provide more than 100 connections beyond Frankfurt to all relevant destinations worldwide.”

Lufthansa has long been renowned as an airline for corporate travellers and for that reason it is much used by our readers.

But with today’s weak corporate market the airline is now targeting the leisure market this summer.
