Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club current status match promotion with the British Airways Executive Club finishes at the end of this month, and to encourage members to take advantage the carrier has added flexibility to the offer.

When the promotion was originally launched, the terms and conditions meant that the status match took effect with 30 days of application. But Virgin has contacted Business Traveller to confirm that this has now been amended, giving members the option to delay the start of the 12-month status match until the first month when they fly with the carrier.

How does the status match work?

To be eligible, members must make a new cash or reward flight booking by February 28, 2021, or have an existing booking for a future flight.

They can then head to virg.in/statusmatch, to provide proof of their current British Airways status and a booking reference for their upcoming Virgin Atlantic flight, and will receive a status match as follows:

  • British Airways Executive Club Bronze members will receive Flying Club Silver status for one year if they have a flight booked in Premium or Upper Class
  • British Airways Executive Club Silver members will receive Flying Club Silver status for one year if they have a flight booked in any cabin
  • British Airways Executive Club Gold members will receive Flying Club Gold status for one year if they have a flight booked in any cabin

The carrier says that the Gold to Gold status match is “a step up from the airline’s current status match programme, which requires Gold Card members to book flights in either Premium or Upper Class”.

As previously reported, Silver members are set to receive “a pair of Clubhouse vouchers” later this year. Silver tier members do not normally get lounge access.

Given current travel restrictions customers maybe making bookings for a fair way in advance, so the changes to the status match offer should provide Flying Club members with a more useful period of upgraded status.
