Easyhotel has announced plans for its second hotel in Barcelona.

The budget hotel chain plans to develop a 75-room hotel in the historic Saint Andreu district in the north east of the city. The property will be located close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sagrada Familia, and both the Navas metro station and La Sagrera rail station.

Set to open at the end of 2022, the hotel will also benefit from a €900 million project to regenerate the local area.

It will join an existing Easyhotel property in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, close to the city’s airport.

Francois Bachetta, CEO of Easyhotel, said:

“I’m delighted to confirm the latest addition to our fast-growing development pipeline of hotels with the new 75-bedroom hotel near Meridiana Avenue expected to open at the end of 2022. The acquisition builds on the success of our established owned 204-bedroom Barcelona Fira in the South West of the city, and we are delighted to have secured this prime site in the North East of this major European destination. It also marks easyHotel’s fourth project in Spain; as well as Barcelona Fira, the Group operates a franchised hotel in Malaga and is set to open another franchise hotel in Madrid-Atocha in 2022.

“Despite the recent impact of restrictions on travel, we see significant long-term opportunity for the easyHotel brand as we continue to expand our presence across continental Europe and look forward to announcing further developments for both our owned and franchised portfolio as the year progresses.”

The budget hotel chain recently announced plans to open its first property in the Welsh capital of Cardiff.

Last summer Easyhotel reopened its flagship hotel on London’s Old Street, following a refurbishment of its guest rooms, and the group also announced the acquisition and rebranding of the Ibis Palais des Congres in Nice.
