Marriott Bonvoy has redesigned its mobile app to meet the “increased desire and demand for travel”.

The app features new shopping and booking options to include premium vacation rentals from Homes and Villas by Marriott International, the work-from-hotel programme Work Anywhere with Marriott Bonvoy, and Marriott Bonvoy Tours and Activities. When guests book via the app, they will be guaranteed the lowest rate available and will be able to earn points and receive on-property benefits during stays.

Additionally, Marriott has updated the app to make it easier for guests to customise their booking for contactless stays. Guests will be able to reduce social interactions through the use of the group’s mobile key, which is currently available at over 4,000 properties. The mobile key is now accessible via the home screen of the app once guests have checked in.

Other contactless features include the ability to request services via the app – this might include ordering a crib, shoeshine and dry cleaning, along with bath towels, pillows, and bath products among other amenities.

The updated app is also more personalised, with points promotions relevant to individual members appearing on the home screen and their account page. Members can also sign up for and earn points with the Marriott Bonvoy co-brand credit cards, allowing them to earn points even when they are not travelling.

Further improvements include the ability to search and book accommodations by hotel brand, destination, price or points needed for a free night’s stay.

Neal Jones, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at Marriott International, Europe, Middle East & Africa, said:

“The pandemic has accelerated the trend of digitalisation in the travel sector. Digital platforms, which have long been the preferred source of content and commerce for Millennials and Gen-Z, will increasingly become a source of both inspiration and sales embraced by all generations. The enhanced Marriott Bonvoy Mobile app is a must-have travel companion. It simplifies the travel planning process, allows for a frictionless experience before and during your stay and gets smarter the more you interact with it.

“The Marriott Bonvoy Mobile app offers travellers access to so much, whether it is the breadth of our global portfolio of 7,500 hotels among our 30 brands or home rentals, to destination experiences and customisable content for travel inspiration. Through tailored offers, members can learn how to earn hundreds of thousands of points just by booking stays, booking a Day Pass to work from a hotel or going about their daily lives.”

The app is currently available in seven languages, with Italian, Russian, Portuguese and Arabic to be added later this year. The improved app will first launch on Apple’s iOS operating system, as the group states that this accounts for most Marriott Bonvoy app users. This will be followed by the Android operating system later this year.

Marriott Bonvoy recently launched a series of offers for its members in a bid to help elite status earners progress to the next level faster following the downturn in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
