JW Marriott has celebrated the opening of its 100th property worldwide with the debut of a hotel in Tampa, Florida.

JW Marriott Tampa Water Street is the brand’s first hotel in Tampa and is located in the dynamic Water Street neighbourhood.

The 519-room hotel has been designed by Nicholas Brosch Wurst Wolfe and Associates, with interiors by Champalimaud Design. The designers have  been inspired by the waterfront district, with water-inspired design, soft natural colour palettes and materials inspired by the natural surroundings. Guests are welcomed by a four-story atrium lobby lounge featuring hanging art and a floating conference room known as the ‘Skybox’.

Several room categories also feature floor-to-ceiling windows and spacious bathrooms with natural light, while a presidential suite has its own terrace with a wet bar and JW Suites offer 270-degree city views of the area. King Guest Rooms promise separate working desks and sliding doors which open to a bathroom with marble units and standalone rain showers.

The hotel also caters to wellbeing-seeking guests with its Stay Well Premier Rooms on the 16th floor, which feature a Vitamin C-infused shower, circadian lighting and an air-purification system.

Further amenities include a pool with cabanas on the sixth floor, and a spa with ten treatment rooms, a plunge pool and boutique. There are also two restaurants as well as further dining options at the neighbouring Tampa Marriott Water Street, all overseen by executive chef Joseph Pankrath.

Driftlight is located on the main floor of the hotel and offers regional farm- and ocean-to-table cuisine, taking its name from the pathways of light cast by the illuminated water bridges in the area.

Six, appropriately located on the sixth floor, allows guests to choose between indoor and outdoor dining overlooking the resort pool or bayfront, with a menu that celebrates “Florida’s roots and rich culinary diversity”. The hotel also has a grab-and-go outlet Turntable, which serves food and drink from the street window, showcasing Tampa’s evolving food scene.

The hotel also offers over 9,000 sqm of meetings and events space, including the largest hotel ballroom in Tampa Bay, and is located next door to both the Tampa Convention Centre and Amalie Arena.

Bill Marriott, Executive Chairman of the Board at Marriott International, commented on the news:

“The first JW Marriott opened in Washington DC in 1984 and was a tribute to my father, J.W., and a celebration of his love of service and hospitality.

“That tribute has now evolved into a global hotel brand, an incredible testament to the spirit of that first hotel being embraced worldwide. Our family is incredibly proud that my father’s name now welcomes guests in over 100 desirable destinations across the globe now, including Tampa.”

Bruce Rohr, Global Brand Leader of JW Marriott, added:

“We couldn’t be more proud to introduce JW Marriott’s 100th hotel in a city that has emerged as one of Florida’s most exciting destinations in recent years – Tampa.

“With its seamless integration into the vibrant Water Street neighborhood, modern design and luxurious amenities inspired by the principles of mindfulness, JW Marriott Tampa Water Street is a shining example of our brand’s continued excellence and our legacy of exceptional service.”

A formal grand opening celebration of the hotel is expected to take place in April.

There are currently 100 JW Marriott hotels in over 30 countries and territories worldwide.
