IHG Hotels and Resorts has announced plans for its first Intercontinental hotel in Morocco.
The 156-room property will be located in the diplomatic district of the country’s capital Rabat, and is expected to open in the first quarter of 2022.
Facilities will include 950 sqm of meeting and events space, a signature spa, and five dining venues, ranging from ”authentic to contemporary”.
The group currently operates 116 hotels across seven brands in the Middle East and Africa, with a further 53 properties in the development pipeline and due to open in the next three to five years.
This week IHG also unveiled a brand revamp, adding “Hotels and Resorts” to its name, and splitting its 16 brands into four collections, of which Intercontinental sits in the “Luxury and Lifestyle” category.
Commenting on the news Pascal Gauvin, managing director, India, Middle East and Africa, IHG said:
“We are delighted to partner with Immohold Hospitality to announce the development of our first InterContinental hotel in Morocco. With a strong legacy in the MEA region for 60 years, we are excited to continue the expansion of our luxury offering with the opening of Intercontinental Rabat in the heart of Morocco’s capital city.
“As the world’s first and largest international luxury travel hotel brand, Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts has been pioneering luxury travel to new and iconic international destinations for decades.
“Each of our hotels is a destination in its own right with a distinctive style and ambience, and as Rabat is a city with such rich culture and heritage, we believe Intercontinental Rabat will offer guests a truly unique travel experience. We are excited about this new venture and look forward to welcoming guests to this highly anticipated location in 2022.”
