IHG Hotels and Resorts has announced plans for its first Intercontinental hotel in Morocco.

The 156-room property will be located in the diplomatic district of the country’s capital Rabat, and is expected to open in the first quarter of 2022.

Facilities will include 950 sqm of meeting and events space, a signature spa, and five dining venues, ranging from ”authentic to contemporary”.

The group currently operates 116 hotels across seven brands in the Middle East and Africa, with a further 53 properties in the development pipeline and due to open in the next three to five years.

This week IHG also unveiled a brand revamp, adding “Hotels and Resorts” to its name, and splitting its 16 brands into four collections, of which Intercontinental sits in the “Luxury and Lifestyle” category.
