Edinburgh airport has expanded its Covid-19 testing facilities, with a new rapid lateral flow test service giving results in 20 minutes.

The Express Test service costs £50, and is being offered on a walk-in basis between 1000 and 1800, with no prior booking required.

It adds to the existing PCR test facilities at the airport, for which bookings are required.

The firm said that “customers will be asked to fill out their details and sign the consent form at the site, before being “guided through to their testing booth by a member of Express Test staff, where they will be swabbed”.

Results are available in 20 minutes, and assuming they are negative, the customer will receive a Fit to Fly certificate.

Nick Markham, founder of Express Test, said that “a growing number of airlines and destinations now require a negative lateral flow test as well as a negative PCR test to be able to travel”, while Gordon Dewar, CEO of Edinburgh Airport, commented:

“Testing will form an important part of travel for the foreseeable future and providing that facility at airports will form part of our business as normal plans. Introducing this on-site will make things easier for those people who are either carrying out essential travel or who return to travel when it is safe to do so.”
