Singapore Airlines has launched a new trial offering pre-departure Covid-19 tests for customers on outbound flights from Singapore.

The partnership with Collinson is also available on services from Jakarta and Medan to the city-state, and sees a Covid-19 test appointment booking portal being added to the carrier’s booking platforms.

The trial will run until mid-March, and if successful is expected to be expanded to include more cities in the SIA and Silk Air network.

Customers can book PCR or serology (antibody) tests via the portal at their preferred in-city clinic, and on completion will automatically receive their results within 36 hours, which can then be used for travel (assuming they are negative).

Collinson has been working with several UK airports and global airlines to deliver over 90,000 Covid-19 tests to date, including the recent opening of a test facility at London Luton airport.

SIA has also been rolling out a programme of vaccinations for its flight crew and ground workers, mirroring a similar move by Emirates.

Ms JoAnn Tan, Senior Vice President Marketing Planning for SIA, said that the pilot was “a reflection of our ongoing efforts to provide passengers with the support they need to feel safe”, while Todd Handcock, President, Asia Pacific, Collinson said:

“Our partnership with Singapore Airlines helps to enable the safe reopening of key routes for travellers and is another step forward in our aim to achieve the long-term, safe return of global travel.

“Covid-19 has brought challenges for businesses and individuals alike around the world, and while there’s optimism that the roll-out of vaccines will help to bring an end to the pandemic, there remains a complex road ahead. In order to restore confidence in travel, the implementation of safe and robust testing protocols remains key.”
