Marriott has opened a hotel under its luxury St Regis brand in the capital of Egypt, located on the banks of the River Nile.
Located at the north end of the Nile Corniche mixed-use development, The St Regis Cairo is situated across 39 storeys with design by architect Michael Graves.
The hotel comprises 286 lavish rooms and suites – three of which feature a private fitness room, sauna, and floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views of the Nile – and a further 80 apartments. All accommodations include the brand’s butler service.
Interiors feature dark wood and rich textures with intricate embroidery, bejewelled panelling, bronze and wood carvings “embellished with flashes of shimmering gold”, mother of pearl inlays and crystal chandeliers.
There are several F&B venues, which include southern Italian cuisine at La Zisa, Singaporean cuisine at Tianma, premium meat cuts at J&G Steakhouse, and a selection of Mediterranean and Egyptian dishes at poolside restaurant and bar Sirocco. The hotel is also home to Envy, “an enchanting and glamorous” lounge, while guests can enjoy afternoon tea at The Water Garden, which features authentic Egyptian interiors.
Additionally, The St Regis Bar draws inspiration from the King Cole Bar at the brand’s flagship in New York, where the Bloody Mary cocktail was reportedly first created in 1934 – the Egyptian outpost offers its own rendition of the signature drink, infused with Hibiscus flower. The bar also boasts a mural entitled “The Pink Sun” which references ancient Egypt and the birth of a modern civilisation.
The property also includes a library, a 1,000 sqm spa, an athletic club, and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. There is a 990 sqm ballroom with a vaulted three-storey high ceiling which can accommodate up to 1,000 guests, and ten flexible meeting rooms.
Satya Anand, President for EMEA at Marriott International, commented:
