Shangri-La is offering complimentary Covid-19 insurance to foreign travellers staying at its four hotels in Singapore. The Hong Kong-based hospitality group said it is one of the first international chains to offer the service.

To avail of the insurance, valid for stays from now until June 30, travellers under Singapore’s Reciprocal Green Lane or Air Travel Pass schemes must book a publicly listed rate at the following properties through Shangri-La directly.

  • Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore
  • Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa
  • JEN Singapore Orchardgateway
  • JEN Singapore Tanglin

Eligible guests will be covered for up to S$250,000 in emergency medical expenses in the event they test positive for Covid-19. Guests will also qualify for an extension of room accommodation as part of the coverage, which is underwritten by AIG.

Chan Kong Leong, CEO Southeast Asia and Australasia at Shangri-La, said:

“Having elevated our hotels’ already stringent and rigorous safety and hygiene standards, we are now going the extra mile by providing Covid-19 medical coverage to our Singapore-bound guests, further instilling their travel confidence.

“We have chosen to start with the Singapore market as the Singapore government has been proactively relaxing travel restrictions in a gradual and calibrated manner and has highlighted Covid-19 insurance coverage as a key enabler to rebuilding traveller confidence.”

Shangri-La’s offer comes after the Singapore government’s announcement in November that it would offer Covid-19 insurance to all inbound travellers for a nominal charge.

The Lion City also plans to open a dedicated travel lane and bubble facility later this month to facilitate face-to-face meetings between business travellers and Singaporeans.
