Hilton has opened its one millionth room as it continues to navigate the challenges of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The 101-year old company has reached the one million milestone thanks to three recent hotel openings in South Africa, the US, and China – Hilton Garden Inn Umhlanga Arch, Tru by Hilton Savannah Airport and Hilton Garden Inn Guizhou Maotai Town.

Hilton currently has a portfolio of 18 brands comprising more than 6,300 properties in 118 countries and territories. The group also revealed that it has 2,640 hotels and over 408,000 rooms in its global pipeline.

Chris Nassetta, President and CEO at Hilton, commented on the achievement:

“It’s been a year unlike any other, but even in the face of incredible challenges, our Team Members and owners have proven that travel is an unstoppable force for good.

“Thanks to their grit and determination, Hilton has made a difference in the lives of so many and positively impacted communities at a time when our hospitality is needed more than ever – and together we look forward to creating even more meaningful memories in the year ahead.”

In comparison, Marriott counted 1.38 million rooms worldwide by the end of 2019, while Chinese group Jin Jiang and Indian group Oyo Hotels and Homes have also passed the one million threshold.
