Oyo Hotels and Homes has opened a property in Plymouth, located in the city’s commercial centre.

The 94-room Oyo Plymouth Central is situated on New George Street, and occupies more than 4,600 sqm over two storeys.

The building was formerly used as a Woolworths stockroom before converting into office space. The site was then bought and developed into a hotel by Red Lions Estate Ltd, which will operate the property in partnership with Oyo.

The hotel is currently in the soft opening phase, with 54 en-suite rooms offering double, twin, triple, and quadruple occupancy. The remaining 40 rooms will open at a later date “in line with demand” due to the ongoing Covid-19 circumstances. These will sleep between two and six guests and include access to shared bathroom facilities with individual locker shower units and lockers.

All rooms have free wifi and a 43-inch Smart TV with on-demand streaming services. Facilities include a large skylit dining room where continental breakfast is served, a communal lounge, and several ‘business pods’ available to hotel guests.

A large lounge on the top floor reserved exclusively for top floor guests is currently under development.

Rishabh Gupta, head of Oyo UK & Europe, commented:

“Since 2018, Oyo has entered into partnership with over 250 established independent hotels in the UK, so we’re delighted to now be working with Red Lions Estate to bring a brand new property to the market.

“Its central location, flexible room options and affordable price point suit a variety of different guests and we believe that Oyo Plymouth Central will become a flagship property both for Oyo UK and for the city.”

Zul Virani from Red Lions Estate added:

“As a coastal destination, a university city, a business centre, a hub for major events and with a military heritage that dates back several centuries, we saw an enticing opportunity to expand upon the tourism infrastructure in Plymouth.

“Our experience in high quality real estate development combined with Oyo’s expertise in hospitality has led to the creation of an attractive new accommodation option for visitors; and being right in the heart of the city, we’re also confident the hotel’s footfall will bring value to neighbouring businesses and retailers in Plymouth city centre.”

The company partners with independently-owned, small and mid-sized hotels, providing services including technology, revenue management, customer service and brand, and has recently added 1,200 rooms to its UK portfolio.

The Oyo brand launched in India six years ago, and currently comprises of over 43,000 hotels in more than 800 cities.
