Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) is set to open its first Kimpton property in Mexico on December 18.

The Aluna Hotel has been rebranded as Kimpton Aluna Hotel, and will be operated by IHG partner Grupo Presidente. The 78-room hotel is located in Tulum on the southern tip of the Mayan Riviera, home to ancient Mayan ruins, the Mesoamerican Coral Reef and Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kimpton Aluna Hotel features 72 rooms and six luxury suites, all of which have private terraces offering views of the lush surroundings. The property has a restaurant and rooftop bar, two outdoor pools, a pool bar, fitness centre, open-air yoga studio and business centre.

The Kimpton will also operate an off-site private beach club, which guests can access via the hotel’s vintage house cars or complimentary beach cruisers.

Mike DeFrino, CEO of Kimpton, commented:

“We’re thrilled to welcome the Kimpton Aluna Hotel to the Kimpton family. This opening officially establishes our brand in Mexico, and provides an incredible opportunity for us to take part in the extremely rich culture and growing market of Tulum. We look forward to furthering IHG’s trusted relationship with Grupo Presidente to offer guests Kimpton’s trademark amenities and heartfelt service.”

Braulio Arsuaga, CEO of Grupo Presidente, added:

“We are very proud to strengthen our long-time partnership with InterContinental Hotels Group, and welcome this new brand to the Grupo Presidente portfolio with the opening of the Kimpton Aluna Hotel in Tulum.”

The hotel will be joined by two further Kimpton properties in Mexico City in late 2021, and the brand has also recently opened hotels in Bangkok and Tokyo.

IHG acquired the Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants in 2015, and opened the first European property under the brand in Amsterdam in 2017.
