Edwardian Hotels will finally open its “super boutique” hotel The Londoner in April 2021, following delays due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Business Traveller has regularly reported on the progress of the hotel, which was initially set to open in summer 2020. The Londoner will be located on the southwest corner of Leicester Square, forming part of the redeveloped Odeon West End site which will also feature a cinema, spa, restaurants and bars.

The Woods Bagot-designed building will occupy 16 storeys and feature 350 rooms, suites and a tower penthouse, all with floor-to-ceiling windows, curated artworks and the latest technology. World-renowned designers Yabu Pushelberg will oversee the interior design.

The property will also have six dining venues, including a ground-floor tavern with daily music performances, and a contemporary Japanese lounge bar with rooftop terrace and open air fire pit seating. There will also be a guests-only area on the property’s first floor.

The Londoner is being dubbed the UK’s “deepest” hotel, with the lowest floor some 30 metres below ground – almost as deep as the property will be tall. The subterranean levels will house a ballroom with capacity for 864 guests, seven meeting rooms, two private screening rooms, a wellness space, and leisure facilities including a swimming pool and gym, hair and nail salon, and barber shop.

This marks the hotel group’s most ambitious project to date, with over £300 million invested into the West End property. The hotel also secured a £175 million Green Loan from HSBC UK to ensure that the hotel reaches the BREEAM Excellent category with regards to environmental and sustainable performance.

Guests will be able to make reservations for the hotel from March 22, 2021. Last year, the hotel group announced that The Londoner would join the Preferred Hotels and Resorts Legend Collection.

Charles Oak, Hotel Director of The Londoner, commented:

“We hope that The Londoner will stand as a beacon of hope for London’s ever resilient hospitality industry and are proud to be recruiting a world class taskforce made up of the city’s most hardworking and talented individuals. Together, we are looking forward to opening our doors in the Spring and welcoming guests from all over to their new home from home, in the heart of the capital’s most vibrant neighbourhood.”
