Plans have been unveiled for the first London hotel by German-based Amano Group.

Drury House on the corner of Russell Street and Drury Lane is set to be converted into the Amano Covent Garden.

A £49 million hotel development financing agreement between the UK arm of Israeli bank Leumi and Manex Properties Ltd will see the former office building transformed into a 141-room hotel, with a scheduled opening date of 2022.

Berlin-based Amano Group operates a portfolio of hotels, restaurants and bars across Germany, including Amano Grand Central in Berlin, Hotel Mio by Amano Munich, and Hotel Dusseldorf Mitte.

Commenting on the news Robert Stafler, Director, Manex Properties, said:

“Manex was created with a vision to add a new flavour to London’s hotel landscape. We are pleased to have closed this financing with Leumi UK, whose excellent team has been a strong and reliable partner for us right from the get-go.

“The success of this financing during the pandemic is testament not only to our relationship with the bank, but also to the strength of our team and our unique location in the heart of Covent Garden.

“Amano Hotels are an established, award-winning franchise in Germany, and we look forward to launching the Amano brand here in London in 2022.”

Earlier this year plans were unveiled for a new Residents’ Clubs lifestyle hotel brand, including a property within the Wellington block in the south east corner of Covent Garden.
