Intercontinental Hotels Group has unveiled plans for the first property under its upper midscale Atwell Suites brand.

The all-suite brand was launched last year, with amenities and services falling somewhere between an extended-stay property and a select service hotel.

IHG launches Atwell Suites brand

The 90-room Atwell Suites Miami Bricknell is scheduled to open in summer 2021 in the city’s financial centre, with the hotel forming part of a mixed-use developments which will offer a 140-room property under IHG’s Hotel Indigo brand.

It is one of 20 Atwell Suites either under planning or in development, in US locations including Austin, Charlotte, Denver and Phoenix, and the group said it expects construction to begin on additional properties “in the coming months”.

Describing Atwell Suites as “a design-led, dynamic, all-suites hotel brand optimized for longer stays of up to six nights”, IHG has said that signature features would include a lobby space “meant to bring people together around the breakfast area, lounge and bar”, as well as co-working space The Common, and The Study meeting room.

Suites will include zones for living and sleeping, a “wet bar” with undercounter refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker and bar sink, a work area with a high-top desk, a pull-out sofa, an oversized vanity in the bathroom, and a two-sided cupboard “that can be easily accessed from both the guestroom and the bathroom”.

Commenting on the news Karen Gilbride, vice president, Avid hotels and Atwell Suites, IHG, said:

“We created Atwell Suites as a result of continuous collaboration and dialogue with an enthusiastic advisory board comprised of IHG owners to offer travellers something truly different in the upper-midscale space.

“The all-suites segment is fast growing and remains very resilient with strong owner interest throughout 2020. We congratulate [owner] Sunview Companies, and our other owners who have been among the first to sign on to develop an Atwell Suites hotel. We’re excited to continue the momentum of this brand and look forward to welcoming our first guests next year.”

Atwell Suites will join IHG’s existing extended stays brands – the US, Canada and Mexico focused Candlewood Suites, and the Staybridge Suites, which has been gradually expanding into the UK market including a Heathrow Bath Road property which opened last year.
