W Hotels Worldwide, part of Marriott International, has expanded its footprint into southwest China with the opening of a new hotel in Chengdu.

Situated in Chengdu’s Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, W Chengdu features 297 guest rooms and suites.

Guests entering the hotel’s lobby, known as “Living Room”, will be greeted with an LED virtual waterfall which Marriott says changes the direction of the flow of water when guests stand on the platform. Guests will also find a variety of artwork at the lobby including depictions of Sichuan Opera actors, a giant blue panda sculpture, and a series of “stone-like artworks”.

The Extreme Wow Suite (the brand’s modern interpretation of the traditional presidential suite) features 368 square meters of space with a bar and lounge area. Marriott says the customised panda cushions and teapots in each guest room “give a nod to Chengdu’s local culture and story”. In-room amenities are from sustainable beauty brand Davines, made from natural eco-friendly ingredients in Italy, says the hotel.

Dining options include two restaurants and two bars. Guests can find  “meticulously crafted cocktails” and snacks at the Living Room. The Yao Yen restaurant offers a modern Cantonese and Sichuan menu paired with regional teas. All-day dining venue Zing features  Southeast Asian cuisine. The hotel’s rooftop patio Spark offering “party packages” including wine and spirits as well as regular sessions with DJ talent, according to the hotel.

W Chengdu offers about 2,600 sqm of meeting space spanning over two floors. The Great Room features a 1,200 sqm pillar-less space which Marriott says is perfect for memorable meetings, weddings and special events.

Other facilities at the hotel include the Away Spa, a gym with a Pilates studio, an indoor swimming pool and a jacuzzi.

“Much like W, a brand that has redefined modern luxury, Chengdu is a city that is firmly in charge of writing its own narrative, fearlessly embracing the future through music, design, and global culture,” said Jennie Toh, vice president, Brand, Asia Pacific, Marriott International.

“With game-changing style and amplified entertainment and innovative culinary offerings, W Chengdu will inject a fresh vibe into the local hospitality scene and offer the most sought-after luxury getaway for locals as well as global jet-setters.”
