Avios Group Ltd and Tesco are to terminate their partnership from early next year, meaning Executive Club members will no longer be able to convert Clubcard points into the airline reward currency.

British Airways has sent an email to its Executive Club member confirming the move, which will take effect on January 18, 2021, and this page on the carrier’s website also outlines the changes.

Members can continue to convert Clubcard points into Avios until this date, at a rate of 600 Avios for every £2.50 worth of points.

Those members who have opted to automatically have their points converted into Avios will continue to see this happen up to and including the November statement (with the cut-off for that statement being October 22). From that point those wishing to convert up until the deadline will have to do so manually.

Any members who believe they have collected Avios on Tesco purchases but have not yet received them, should fill in a missing Avios claim form by March 31, 2021.

Tesco Clubcard also partners with Virgin’s Flying Club loyalty programe, with £2.50 in Clubcard points worth 625 Virgin Points. There is no suggestion at this stage that this partnership will end.

In a statement provided to Business Traveller, British Airways said:

“Our partnership with Tesco Clubcard will be ending in January. Tesco customers can continue to convert their Tesco points into Avios until then and their Avios will remain valid for at least 36 months. We are contacting our Executive Club members to let them know about the 100s of other ways they can collect and redeem their Avios.”
