Bill Bair, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety, made an announcement that Canada would close its borders for international tourists, until October 31, 2020.

Tourists, even those who hold valid visas, cannot enter the country by land, air or sea. This includes travellers from the USA as well.

However, Canadian citizens that have a permanent residence in Canada, people with work permits for non-discretionary and non-optional reasons and international students with valid student visas can travel into the country.

This also applies to any other groups of people who have been exempted by the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada.

They would however be required to complete a 14-day self-quarantine after their arrival into Canada.

The country had first closed its borders to non-citizens and non-essential travellers back in March 2020.

The decision has been made by the government in order to curb a potential second wave of Covid-19 cases in Canada.
