Singapore Airlines (SIA) has dropped plans to launch flights to nowhere, and the carrier has converted its A380 aircraft into a fine dining restaurant as part of its three new non-flying initiatives called “Discover Your Singapore Airlines”.
Earlier this month, there were media reports that the national carrier was going to launch “flights to nowhere” in October, however, the airline will no longer be offering trips that depart and land in the same place.
SIA says the new experiences are a result of a “market study and a comprehensive review” which considered factors such as “the environmental implications, and their financial viability”.
“An idea for a one-off short tour flight, or a “flight to nowhere”, was also initially considered but not pursued after the review,” reads a statement from the carrier.
However, as part of a slew of new experiences, the airline has converted its A380 into a fine dining restaurant. The airline says Restaurant A380 @Changi offers the airline’s “signature international cuisine” and dishes from its Peranakan menu that was designed by Singaporean chef Shermay Lee.
SIA says “limited slots” for a pre-lunch tour of the A380 will also be available.
Diners will also receive “KrisShop discounts, a limited edition goodie bag and additional gifts if they turn up in traditional heritage wear,” says the carrier.
Reservations start on October 12 and Restaurant A380 @Changi will operate on October 24 and 25.
