To cater to the growing traffic demand on the Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, the statutory body working under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India (AAI) is constructing a new terminal building, which will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for travellers.

AAI explains that the new multi-level terminal will comprise 18,985 sqm area along with 1,185 sqm fixed link bridges and a utility building of 3,340 sqm area. There will be 18 check-in counters in the new terminal building.

The swanky new terminal will depict the art and culture of Ladakh and will offer easy connectivity within the airport complex via elevators, escalators, and staircases.

In addition, it will have centralised cooling and heating systems for providing passengers with comfort in extreme winter conditions of Leh.

Annually, the airport is set to handle approximately 16 lakh passengers.

The estimated project cost of this new terminal building is ₹480 crores.
