Oaks Hotels, Resorts and Suites’ 76-room hotel in Cairns will mark its debut on September 15.

Oaks Cairns Hotel is being developed on 59 Cairns Esplanade. Three levels have been added to the building which is undergoing a conversion into a five-storey hotel, says the hotel company.

“It has been a challenging year for the tourism industry with the Covid-19 pandemic impacting all hotels nationally. Minor is confident in the return of the traveller and thrilled to see Oaks continue to move forward and expand its portfolio into the city centre of Cairns, offering a premium accommodation option from which to explore the region,” said Craig Hooley, chief operating officer, Oaks Hotels, Resorts & Suites.

Overlooking Cairns Esplanade Lagoon and the Coral Sea , in the heart of the central business district, the hotel will have the rooftop Oak and Vine restaurant and bar, serving daily buffet or a la carte breakfast and light lunch options. In the evening, the space will transform into a cocktail bar serving Peruvian share plates as well as “contemporary Australian favourites”.

Oaks Cairns Hotel will join the existing Oaks Port Douglas Resort in the tropical north and open shortly after the new-build Oaks Toowoomba Hotel, which opened its doors on July 1. Once Oaks Cairns Hotel opens, the Oaks network will total 28 hotels and resorts across Queensland.

Oaks Hotels, a brand under Minor Hotels, has about 55 properties in Australia, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
