Etihad Airways has launched new antimicrobial treated snood style face masks for business and first class customers.

The reusable snoods have been treated with “a broad spectrum antimicrobial treatment, laboratory tested and proven to reduce the presence of germs in fabrics”.

The airline said that the Microbe Barrier fabric treatment adds a long-lasting protective barrier, enabling them to be washed and reused.

Etihad said that the snoods are made of lightweight, breathable and stretchy jersey fabric offering passengers the option “to wear the snood around their neck like a scarf, and when in close proximity to others, pull it up over their mouth and nose to protect themselves and those around them”.

The move is part of the carrier’s Etihad Wellness health and hygiene programme, which has seen measures including the introduction of Wellness Ambassadors, and a new ‘Fit to Fly’ self-service check-in and health screening service at the airport, which will include the reading of travellers’ heart rates, “respiratory system” and temperature.
