Bahrain has announced it will reopen gyms, outdoor playgrounds and swimming pools from August 6.

A state coordination committee led by Crown Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa said last week that these facilities would start to open as part of a plan to help the Kingdom return to normal life.

The move follows recommendations from a national medical task team on COVID-19, with health and safety measures to be adopted by these leisure facilities to be announced soon.

Outdoor dining at restaurants and cafés will be permitted from September 3, said the committee, while shisha lounges and dine-in services will resume operations from September 24, it added.

Bahrain has already started reintroducing limited outdoor activities as lockdown measures start to ease, with the Kingdom’s first drive-in cinema opening its doors last month.

Located in Bahrain Bay, the al fresco movie theatre can accommodate 100 cars per show and plans to screen two films weekly, with tickets available online. Bahrain’s indoor cinemas and theatres remain closed as a precautionary measure.

The Kingdom is hoping to see an uptick in visitors now that border restrictions with Saudi Arabia have eased.

The King Fahd Causeway, which links the two countries, shut on March 7, but reopened on July 23, allowing Saudi nationals in Bahrain to return to Saudi Arabia.
