American Airlines is extending its offer to waive change fees for passengers booking tickets for any new travel purchased by September 8, 2020.

The airline says the offer applies to tickets that meet the following criteria:

  • Any first, business, premium economy or Main Cabin ticket purchased on or before June 30, 2020, for future travel will not incur change fees prior to travel. According to AA, customers must pay any fare difference, if applicable, at time of ticketing of the new fare. Fare rules may apply depending on the ticket.
  • All AAdvantage (the airline’s frequent flyer programme) award tickets are included in this offer.
  • Passengers can change their origin and destination cities.
  • Travel must be completed by December 31, 2021.

Main Cabin is the airline’s upgrade to its economy class seat. Passengers travelling with Main Cabin tickets can choose their seat for free when booking, get free snacks and soft drinks, and watch free movies and tv shows, according to the airline’s website.

The airline currently has a change fee waiver in place for all tickets for travel through September 30, 2020.

Earlier this month, the US carrier made major adjustments to its long-haul international schedule for winter 2020 through summer 2021 amid low demand due to the coronavirus crisis.
