Qatar Airways has ramped up the health and safety measures onboard its flights, with economy passengers now required to wear face shields as well as masks / coverings.
No images have been provided of the disposable shields, but the airline said that they will come in adult and child sizes, with the latter featuring the Oryx Kids Club mascots as part of their design.
The shields will be distributed at check-in for flights departing Doha, or at boarding gates for services departing from other destinations.
Economy passengers will be required to wear the face shields and masks throughout flights, except when they are served meals or drinks.
In business class customers will be asked to wear the shields and masks “at their own discretion”, as “they enjoy more space and privacy”.
Passengers will also be given complimentary protective kits onboard, consisting of a ziplock pouch with single-use surgical face mask, large disposable powder-free gloves and an alcohol-based hand sanitiser gel. Business class customers will also be offered an additional 75ml sanitiser gel tube.
Cabin crew are also being outfitted with new branded disposable protective gowns which fit over their uniforms, in addition to safety glasses, gloves and a mask.
