Premier Inn is set to open a new-build property in London’s Southwark district this autumn.

The 274-room hotel will be Whitbread’s largest London opening for this current financial year, and will feature the group’s Bar and Block steakhouse restaurant concept.

It will join existing Premier Inn properties in the area, including the Premier Inn London Southwark (Borough High St) and the Premier Inn London Southwark (Bankside).

The hotel will form part of the New Marlborough Yard development between Ufford Street and the Lewisham Southwark College Building on The Cut, which will also feature a public courtyard and park.

Meanwhile Premier Inn is also set to open a 180-room hotel in the centre of Milton Keynes this autumn, the sixth property by the group in the Buckinghamshire town.

Whitbread recently announced plans to reopen 35 construction sites across England and Wales, and has announced a raft of new health and hygiene measures under the Premier Inn CleanProtect promise, ahead of the reopening of phased reopening of hotels in England on July 4.

Commenting on the news Alex Flach, UK development director at Whitbread, said:

“While the coronavirus pandemic has created significant challenges for the hospitality industry, we remain committed to our strategy of growing and innovating Premier Inn and hub by Premier Inn in the UK and Ireland.

“Reaching practical completion of new Premier Inn hotels in Milton Keynes and on The Cut in Southwark takes us a step closer to adding 450 new Premier Inn rooms in the prime locations our customers want to be.

“The hotels and restaurants are in the heart of the action, look fantastic and we’re confident they will be very popular with our customers when they open later this year.”
