American Airlines has outlined a planned increase in domestic services next month, alongside the reopening of selected Admirals Club lounges and an AAdvantage miles promotion for bookings made this month.

The carrier says it will operate over 55 per cent of domestic capacity in July (compared with the same month last year). This compares with just 20 per cent in May.

AA says it will offer more seats to Florida than any other airline next month, “as the nation’s favourite theme parks begin to open”. There will also be additional frequencies from Dallas and Charlotte to Gulf Coast cities, mountain destinations, and cities including Asheville, Savannah and Charleston.

As flights increase the carrier is also beginning to reopen its Admirals Club lounges, with 11 locations set to resume service from June 22. Unless noted below, the lounges will offer pre-packaged snacks and a full service bar.

AA says that “Hours vary by location and capacity and offerings could be limited due to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines or local orders or restrictions”.

The lounges set to reopen are:

  • Charlotte (CLT) — Concourse C
  • Chicago (ORD) — Concourse H/K
  • Dallas (DFW) — Terminal A and Terminal C
  • Los Angeles (LAX) — Terminal 4
  • New York (JFK) — Terminal B (only prepackaged food and water will be available, per local restrictions)
  • New York (LGA) — Concourse D (only prepackaged food and water will be available, per local restrictions)
  • Miami (MIA) — Gate D30
  • Philadelphia (PHL) — Terminal B/C
  • Phoenix (PHX) — Gate A7
  • Washington, D.C. (DCA) — Terminal B

A number of other lounges will reopen as service centres only, offering travel assistance.

Further afield American Airlines has announced plans to resume a number of European flights, including routes from Charlotte, LAX, Philadelphia, and Raleigh-Durham to Heathrow.

AA has also added a new tool at check-in allowing customers scheduled to fly on certain “fuller flights” the option to swap to a flight with fewer booked seats without incurring additional cost.

Finally the airline has launched what it is calling a ‘Summer of Deals’ promotion, including double AAdvantage miles for customers pre-registering at aa.com/summerofdeals and booking flights during June, for travel before September 30.
