Lufthansa Group has announced plans to “significantly” expand its services in June, including long-haul flights to destinations like Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Toronto and Dubai.

The Group said by the end of June, it is planning to offer around 1,800 weekly roundtrips to more than 130 destinations worldwide.

In the first half of June, the flight schedule includes 19 long-haul destinations. This is fourteen more destinations than in May. The groups said its airlines Lufthansa, Swiss and Eurowings will be offering more than 70 overseas flights until mid-June, almost four times as many as in May.

The German airline group said in a statement that it plans to resume more long-haul flights in the second half of June.

Lufthansa’s additional flights that are resuming in the first half of June, in Germany and Europe, are from Frankfurt to the following destinations: Hanover, Majorca, Sofia, Prague, Billund, Nice, Manchester, Budapest, Dublin, Riga, Krakow, Bucharest and Kiev.

The carrier will also resume services from Munich to Münster/Osnabrück, Sylt, Rostock, Vienna, Zurich, Brussels and Mallorca.

Lufthansa is planning to resume long-haul flights to the following destinations from Frankfurt: Toronto, Mexico City, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Tel Aviv, Riyadh, Bahrain, Johannesburg, Dubai and Mumbai. The destinations Newark/New York, Chicago, Sao Paulo, Tokyo and Bangkok will continue to be offered. The group said these flights are subject to possible travel restrictions.

Lufthansa is planning to resume long-haul flights to the following destinations from Munich: Chicago, Los Angeles, and Tel Aviv. These flights are also subject to possible travel restrictions.

Austrian Airlines will extend the suspension of flights for a further week, between May 31 and June 7, Lufthansa Group said in a statement. It added that “a resumption of service in June is being considered”.

Swiss is planning to resume services to destinations in the Mediterranean region. European cities such as Paris, Brussels and Moscow will also be added to the programme, the carrier said in a statement.

The Swiss carrier said it plans to offer flights from Zurich to New York JFK, Chicago, Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo, Mumbai, Hong Kong and Johannesburg.

Low cost carrier Eurowings announced last week that it would gradually start adding 15 further destinations within Europe from May onwards.

“With flights to Spain, Greece, Portugal and Croatia, the focus is on destinations in the Mediterranean region. Furthermore the island of Mallorca will again be offered from several German Eurowings gateways,” reads a statement from the Lufthansa Group.

Brussels Airlines is planning to resume some flights starting June 15. Business Traveller Asia-Pacific has reached out to Lufthansa Group for more details on which routes it plans to operate.

The catering services on board these Brussels Airlines’ flights will “remain restricted until further notice”. The carrier said passengers will continue to be asked to wear “a nose-and-mouth cover” during the flight.

Some carriers are planning to restore some of their capacity in June after drastically cutting the number of flights they operate due to a drastic decline in travel demand, as well as the onset of government restrictions.
