Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) operating Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR) has announced a slew of measures including social distancing, thermal screening, sanitisation and contactless F&B to ensure safe passenger travel post-lockdown.

Seating across the terminal including at F&B outlets has been rearranged and marked in a manner that promotes social distancing. Signage across the airport will help passengers maintain an adequate distance.

The airport, along with Airport Health Officer (APHO) and State Health Department, will conduct thermal screening of passengers and employees, based on guidelines issued by Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Department of Health and Family Welfare.

Passengers will be provided with details on Covid-19 protection measures through electronic display systems. Online check-in and bringing electronic or printed boarding pass will be promoted.

It is now mandatory for passengers to download the Aarogya Setu app before entering the terminal.

Hand sanitisers have been placed at nearly 500 locations across the terminal. Face masks are now compulsory at all public places. Passengers would be able to purchase both sanitiser and masks at BLR Airport.

Frequent deep cleaning and sanitisation of all touchpoints are being carried out.

To tackle medical emergencies, the airport has launched indoor ambulances equipped with oxygen cylinders and other essential facilities.

BIAL has also developed a contactless solution to help restaurants and eateries minimise human contact. Contactless menu, ordering and payment will all be done via a kiosk or a mobile app.

For retail services, BIAL is launching FASTR BY BLR, an omnichannel initiative that enables passengers to buy retail and duty-free products online.

Hari Marar, managing director and chief executive officer, BIAL said, “With the highest priority on the safety of passengers, employees and other stakeholders, we have implemented a series of actions to protect passengers and minimise exposure from the transmission of the virus when the airport reopens.

“BLR Airport is all geared up to welcome our passengers back and we’re committed to guaranteeing a safe experience for our passengers by implementing the high standards, procedures and practices.”
