As per an official order issued by the Indian government, all existing visas granted to foreigners except to those belonging to diplomatic, official, UN/international organisations, employment and project categories, will remain suspended until the ban on international air travel to and from India is lifted.
In a separate order, the Centre has granted some consular services to foreign nationals stranded in India.
“Regular visa, e-visa or stay stipulation, of such foreign nationals whose visas have expired or would be expiring during the period from February 1 (midnight) until the date on which prohibition on international air travel of passengers from India is lifted by Government of India, would be extended on ‘gratis’ basis, on submission of an online application by the foreigners,” said Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)
Extensions will be granted for a period of up to 30 days beyond the opening of international travel in India, without levy of overstay penalty.
The ministry has also stated that it has kept in abeyance multiple entry life-long visas granted to Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders until the ban on international travel is lifted.
