US railroad company Amtrak has joined many of the world’s airline and hotel groups by extending status privileges in its Guest Rewards loyalty programme.

This page on Amtrak’s website now confirms that member’s current statuses will be extended for an additional year, through to February 28, 2022.

The group had already paused the expiration of member points, as well as upgrade and companion coupons – although this is currently only until September 25, 2020.

In addition Amtrak said that it is extending lounge privileges to members with Select tier status until June 30. Lounge access within the Amtrak Guest Rewards programme is usually reserved for Select Plus and Select Executive members, with Select members receiving two passes per year.

Finally the group is waiving all change fees on all new and existing reservations made before May 31, including those made with points.

Amtrak continues to operate essential services on the Northeast Corridor – a full list of current reduced and suspended services can be seen here.

To help maintain Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations for social distancing onboard trains, Amtrak has temporarily reduced sales to 50 per cent capacity.
