Indian Government along with Google India and Smart Cities team has mapped Public Food Shelters and Public Night Shelters for 31 cities across India on Google Maps.

To find the closest shelter, users can search on Google Maps for ‘Food Shelter Near Me’ or ‘Night Shelter Near Me’.

This new feature is built by Google India in collaboration with the Indian government.

The aim of this feature is to help users locate shelters who are stranded amidst the Covid-19 lockdown in India.

Google Maps has also introduced another feature that helps users locate nearby takeaway and delivery restaurants.

According to 9to5 Google site, “Google Maps has highlighted shortcut buttons to the main interface of its mobile app. These new takeout and delivery shortcuts work a lot like other maps shortcuts for restaurants, gas stations, coffee shops, and other locations. The options for takeout and delivery have been in Maps for a while, but Google is just not pushing them to the forefront.”

Users looking for the delivery option can click on that particular shortcut displaying a list of nearby restaurants that are delivering in your area. Likewise, users looking for the takeaway option can click on the shortcut displaying a number of restaurants that are providing takeaway options.

These options are available for both Android and iOS users in the United States, India, and some other countries in the world.
