“Many customers from Malaysians to foreigners have reached out to our global offices requesting for available flights mostly between Kuala Lumpur to Australia and New Zealand as well as to Kuala Lumpur onward to London,” said Izham Ismail, group chief executive officer of Malaysia Airlines.

The airline said passengers looking for flights to return home can book their tickets on the airline’s website or via its mobile app.

Malaysia Airlines previously announced flight reductions across its domestic and international network after Malaysia imposed a Movement Control Order, under which foreign travellers will be barred from entering the country, while Malaysian citizens will not be allowed to travel abroad.

According to Reuters, the order has now been extended two more weeks from March 31 until April 14.

The airline added at it is “running at minimum mostly to facilitate essential travels and cargo movement”.

US carrier United Airlines has also reinstated some international flights to help stranded passengers get home.
