Japan will ask travellers from the United States to self-quarantine for 14 days after their arrival to contain the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19), according to a report by local newspaper The Japan Times.

Citing a government source, the newspaper said during the two-week period, these travellers will be asked to stay in designated places such as their homes or hotels and avoid use of public transportation.

The report added that the Japanese government is also considering imposing an entry ban from the United States.

Japan’s Foreign Ministry urged the public to avoid nonessential travel to the United States yesterday, the report said.

According to the World Health Organization’s situation report published on March 23, the United States has 31,573 Covid-19 cases, while Japan has 1,089 cases.
