Fans of the A380 who had booked to fly with Lufthansa could be disappointed.

It has been reported in Germany that the airline will ground its 14-strong A380 fleet until May at the earliest.

The carrier has not yet responded to our request for comment.

The news emerged from an internal memo to Lufthansa staff.

It is not unexpected as it’s understood that the A380s have had load factors of around 35 per cent in recent times.

Last week, Business Traveller reported that Lufthansa was considering grounding its A380s as it seeks to cut capacity by as much as 50 per cent amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Lufthansa now splits its A380 fleet between its hubs at Frankfurt and Munich.

And sadly for fans of the aircraft, Lufthansa intends to almost halve its A380 fleet in the near future.
