Virgin Atlantic has pushed back the launch of its new Sao Paulo route from March 29 to October 5 due to the coronavirus.

The carrier said: “As with airlines around the world, Virgin Atlantic is feeling the impact of Covid-19 (coronavirus) and seeing a fall in customer demand for travel.

“We are taking appropriate measures and focusing efforts on ensuring that the airline is in a robust position to weather the storm, minimising the impact of the virus on Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Holidays.”

It has suspended its London Heathrow-Shanghai service until April 19 and will run nine fewer services to Hong Kong in March.

There will be no VS206 LHR-HKG service on March 5, 7, 10, 13, 16, 18, 21, 23 and 25, and no VS207 HKG-LHR service on March 6, 8, 11, 14, 17, 19, 22, 24 and 26.

Virgin will also waive flight change fees for all flights booked between now and the end of March.
