Shangri-La Group is now extending tier status and benefits for members of its loyalty programme Golden Circle around the world in light of the recent Covid-19 outbreak.

With this extension, all Golden Circle Diamond and Jade members will be able to maintain their current tier status and benefits until December 31, 2021.

The hotel group said the updated status validity will be reflected in members’ profiles “with immediate effect”.

“The health and wellbeing of our guests and members are of utmost priority to us. We understand that because of the Covid-19 situation, our members’ travel plans may have been impacted and/or their hotel stay affected,” said Wee Kee Ng, vice president, marketing (loyalty), Shangri-La Group.

“To alleviate our Diamond and Jade members’ concerns on the validity of their membership status and as an expression of our gratitude for their continued support, we have opted to extend their membership status and benefits globally.”

Other major hotel groups also announced membership tier and benefit extensions for their members whose travel plans have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak. IHG, Hilton and Marriott offer such extensions to their members in the Greater China region, while Hyatt gives tier status and benefits extensions to all its members based in the Asia-Pacific region.

What’s more, Shangri-La Group has also extended its cancellation waiver policy for all guests travelling to any of its hotels in Greater China, as well as for those who plan to travel from Greater China and Korea to any of its hotels globally, on or before March 31 this year.

The hotel group will waive the cancellation charges regardless of what booking channel was used for bookings made before March 1.

Business Traveller Asia-Pacific is updating a list of hotel groups that are waiving cancellation fees and offering more flexible rebooking policies amid concern over the spread of the coronavirus:
