Starting March 15 this year, passengers travelling in first class with Japanese carrier ANA to select international destinations will get Sony’s noise-cancelling WH-1000XM3 headphones.

The airline said it will provide versions of the headphones that “have been specifically designed to meet cabin specifications”.

These headphones have a built-in “NC Optimiser” function, which can “optimise sound quality according to changes in the atmospheric pressure” and can also “help alter its sound output to sync with the contours of each individual listener’s ears”.

ANA said it first introduced the same headphones on its Airbus A380 “Flying Honu” aircraft in May 2019 and the positive reaction from passengers encouraged the airline to continue to offer the headphones throughout its fleet.

The headphones will be available to all first class passengers on flights departing from Tokyo to the following international destinations: Chicago, Frankfurt, Honolulu, Houston, London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington D.C.

“We are proud that our close relationship with Sony makes it possible for us to make the latest technology available for ANA passengers,” said Hideki Kunugi, executive vice president of ANA.

“These advanced headphones will help improve the passenger experience by making our entire in-flight library of movies, music and other media more enjoyable.”

Last year, Air Asia X, the long-haul arm of Air Asia, also began providing the Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones to its Premium Flatbed passengers on board all Air Asia X Malaysia scheduled flights over five hours.
