El Al will launch five-times weekly flights between Stansted and Tel Aviv on June 28, marking its first flights from the London airport since 2009.

The route will initially operate until September 3 on a B737-800 configured with business and economy class.

In 2019, the Israeli flag carrier returned to Manchester Airport after an 18-year gap.

“We are very pleased to welcome El Al Israel Airlines back to London Stansted,” said Nick Sime, Stansted’s head of aviation.

“In excess of 700,000 people already travel from our catchment area to Tel Aviv each year, so it’s fantastic El Al has recognised the great opportunity the exists at Stansted and is offering people living in North London and the East of England a quicker and more convenient travel option.”

El Al is due to launch flights from Tel Aviv to Chicago in March, and to Dublin and Dusseldorf this summer.

It is also set to run some nonstop flights between Israel and Australia in April, with a view to testing the potential of regular operation between Tel Aviv and Melbourne.
