Malaysia Airlines has paired up with Chile-based LATAM Airlines Group for a codeshare agreement.

Malaysia’s flag carrier said passengers will be able to connect to Santiago via Auckland, Sydney, or Melbourne starting this month. These services are now marketed with Malaysia Airlines’ MH flight code.

Meanwhile, LATAM customers will be able to connect to Kuala Lumpur via Auckland, Sydney, or Melbourne on Malaysia Airlines’ flights carrying LATAM’s LA code.

“This new codeshare agreement further reinforces our commitment to provide a greater choice in destination for our passengers, giving the widest possible range of options for their travels. With this, we will be able to build our footprint in South America, with Chile acting as a gateway for Malaysians to explore the region,” said Izham Ismail, Malaysia Airlines Group chief executive officer.

Codeshares allow flights operated by one carrier to be booked with another. They are popular among airlines wishing to extend their networks.

Malaysia Airlines also recently expanded its codeshare partnership with Qatar Airways, and the airline also inked a codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines.

Last year, LATAM Airlines Brazil launched a new codeshare deal with Emirates, allowing customers to connect to and from 17 domestic Brazilian destinations via its routes to Rio and Sao Paulo.
