Next week sees South African Airways (SAA) A350-900 make its European debut.

According to the carrier’s website, the A350-900 will operate the following flights with the initial departure from Johannesburg on February 2 to arrive into Frankfurt the following day.

SA260 Johannesburg-Frankfurt Depart 2025 Arrive 0615 (next day)

SA261 Frankfurt-Johannesburg Depart 2045 Arrive 0825 (next day)

All told, SAA is acquiring four A350-900s. Two of these had already been operated by another carrier, with the other two arriving new from Airbus and, according to CAPA, are being subleased from Air Mauritius.

SAA’s A350-900s are configured two-classes with 30 seats in business and 309 in economy.

It is understood that extra legroom is provided for the first six rows of economy class.

No information is yet available of when SAA’s A350-900 might appear on its London Heathrow route.

Business Traveller will seek more clarification from SAA.

The airline was granted £185 million in emergency funding from the government-owned Development Bank of Southern Africa this week.
